SAUGERTIES, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2022) – Winston Farm, a transformative development proposal on premium property adjacent to the New York State Thruway’s Exit 20, welcomes community insights that will be offered at tonight’s Saugerties Town Board public hearing as part of the public-scoping component of the town’s municipal review.
Winston Farm proposes uses including tourism, entertainment, recreation, commercial/retail, technology, hospitality, housing and significant open space. Public scoping, part of the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) process, will define the items and studies to be included in the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement.
“Tonight is an important night and Winston Farm welcomes the community’s insights, which are part of the developers’ commitment to collaboration with our community,” said Winston Farm spokesman Josh Sommers. “The feedback will help ensure a thorough process and we will be listening intently, as we have been doing throughout this process and pledge to do moving ahead.”
Winston Farm has hired top-shelf consultants and experts to ensure the studies required by the scoping process are comprehensive, accurate and objective, Sommers said.
“These reports will ensure that the Winston Farm proposal can be thoroughly evaluated by the Saugerties Town Board, other involved agencies and community members,” he said. “Our goal, to create a vibrant development that amplifies economic opportunity, quality of life and community pride, can only be accomplished through respect for our community and a methodical approach to development.”
In July, the Saugerties Town Board issued a “positive declaration” regarding Winston Farm, which set the stage for public scoping and Wednesday’s public hearing. The declaration prompted required environmental and technical studies that must be completed and evaluated in order to shape the development proposal in detail.
Winston Farm, at 119 Augusta Savage Road, is best known for hosting the Woodstock ’94 music festival. It also has long been considered a desirable property due to its location, scale, topography and scenic views. These amenities led Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress, a nonprofit organization that promotes balanced and sustainable growth, to previously designate Winston Farm as the top prime development location in the Hudson Valley.
The 6 p.m. public hearing is at the Frank D. Greco Memorial Senior Center, 207 Market St., Saugerties. The public will have numerous opportunities to provide input throughout the municipal review process. Learn more about the proposal at WinstonFarm.com.
