WALDEN SAVINGS BANK SUPPORTS AMERICA’S HEALING HEROES

Bank to sponsor Project Hero 2017 Honor Ride BX3

MONTGOMERY, N.Y. (August 11, 2017) – Walden Savings Bank will honor and support veterans and first responders as a sponsor of the Project Hero 2017 Honor Ride Bx3. In total, $1,700 was donated by the Bank to support the event, which brings attention to the national mental health crisis created by PTSD and TBI.

“Walden Savings Bank is honored to be involved with an organization like Project Hero and to support its noble work of helping veterans affected by PTSD, TBI and injury achieve rehabilitation, recovery and resilience in their daily lives,” said Walden Savings Bank President and CEO, Derrik R. Wynkoop. “The men and women who deal with these issues have put themselves in harm’s way to protect our nation. We are proud to offer our support as they continue on their roads to recovery.”

Hundreds of cyclists will participate in the Honor Ride, which takes place Sunday, August 20 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Dark Horse Cycles at 628 Route 17K in Montgomery. The event offers cyclists of all proficiency levels the opportunity to ride on bike-friendly routes alongside veterans working on their rehabilitation and recovery while raising funds to help veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD, TBI and injury.

Free to injured veterans and open to the public, the event is a self-paced, non-competitive bike ride featuring a colorful patriotic pack of hand cycles, adaptive bikes, recumbent cycles, custom tandems and traditional bicycles. More than 90 percent of funds raised go directly to community programs helping veterans and first responders, including providing adaptive bikes specifically built to allow injured healing heroes to participate this event.

Project Hero has built more than 200 adaptive bikes and donated more than 2,500 bicycles to veterans. More than 30,000 miles have been logged in 30 states and eight countries as part of fundraising efforts.

Other organizations joining Walden Savings Bank as sponsors are Dark Horse Cycles, Newburgh Brewing Co., Quickway Twin Cone, Defiant Crew MC and Enviroclean.
