Artifacts from first deposit in 1872 on display at Walden branch
MONTGOMERY, N.Y. (June 14, 2012) – Walden Savings Bank is celebrating its 140th year of providing banking products and services to the community with a unique historical display at its first branch in Walden.
Established on April 25, 1872, Walden Savings Bank received its first deposit on June 1, 1872 in the amount of $700, roughly $13,200 today, from John R. Hayes. The original ledger noting the deposit, as well as other artifacts, will be on display until Tuesday, July 31 at the Walden branch at 2 Bank St., Walden, N.Y.
“This original ledger is more than a book of names and numbers,” said Derrik R. Wynkoop, president and CEO of Walden Savings Bank. “It showcases the first group of customers who instilled faith in Walden Savings Bank. From our first deposit to the most recent one, this bank is grateful to all of its customers for entrusting us with their futures, and helping us enhance customer service along the way.”
Other artifacts on display include a booklet commemorating the Walden Savings Bank 100th Anniversary, a marketing flyer from 1932 and photos from numerous time periods showing the evolution of the building and the village.
