Rockland Residents Invited To Tour Pilot Purification Facility On Saturday, May 19
WEST NYACK, NY, May 15, 2012 – United Water New York announced it will host an open house for local residents to visit and tour the Haverstraw Water Supply Project pilot facility. Refreshments will be available as well as activities for children. Customers are invited to attend the open house to learn how this facility will help provide clean water to Rockland residents for generations to come.
Date: Saturday, May 19
Time: 10 am to 2 pm
Place: 4 Carol Ave., West Haverstraw, N.Y.
“This is our fourth open house in the past year. We are dedicated to raising awareness about water supply issues in Rockland County and educating our customers about this project,” said Michael J. Pointing, the company’s vice president and general manager. “Through these events, we have provided hundreds of Rockland County residents with facts about the Haverstraw Water Supply Project and demonstrated how it is the best all-around solution to meet Rockland’s growing water needs.”
United Water engineers will be available to provide tours and discuss the water purification process which includes a reverse osmosis system to help remove salt from Hudson River water. It’s the same technology used by the U.S. armed forces, major cruise lines and bottled water companies.
“The Haverstraw Water Supply Project uses a proven approach that starts with standard treatment and filtering technologies found in water plants all over the world,” added Pointing. ”Here in Rockland, our pilot facility has used reverse osmosis to purify 40 million gallons of water. Independent certified labs have analyzed 10,000 water samples. These findings were reviewed by New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health. I’m proud to say, from every objective criterion, the results are excellent.”
