ULSTER COUNTY TOURISM DIRECTOR ANNOUNCES THAT THE PERFECT VALENTINE’S DAY EXISTS HERE IN ULSTER COUNTY

KINGSTON, N.Y. (Feb. 6, 2013) — Ulster County Tourism Director Richard J. Remsnyder would like to share the variety of opportunities in the area for couples to enjoy this Valentine’s Day.

With its beautiful wintertime vistas, romantic holiday events and vibrant nightlife, Ulster County is the perfect destination for a couple’s retreat. Each Valentine’s Day, the area is awash in romantic opportunities for a special night or weekend out, and this year will be no different.

“Nestled in scenic forests stretching from the Hudson River Valley to the Catskill Mountains, Ulster County has become a prime destination throughout the year, although the winter months bring a particular beauty to the region,” said County Executive Mike Hein. “Our varied accommodations offer guests picturesque views of natural scenery, events and activities just for couples, and many of our resorts boast luxurious accommodations. Add in the fact that Ulster County is home to a variety of local wineries and confectioners, and it’s easy to see how the area is the perfect setting for an unforgettable Valentine’s Day.”

“When it comes to Valentine’s Day, Ulster County is known for the variety of creative and unique opportunities for couples, spouses and even entire families,” added Tourism Director Richard J. Remsnyder. “From wine tastings and art expos to skiing excursions and charming bed and breakfasts, you quite literally have endless options. We invite all couples — young and old — to explore all that Ulster County has to offer on February 14th and beyond.  Ulster County is the perfect place for couples to enjoy a romantic getaway, whether they are residents of our county taking advantage of our amenities for a day or people from out of the area taking in all that Ulster offers during a few-day stay,” Remsnyder said.

No Valentine’s Day is complete without a healthy dose of wine and chocolate. On Sunday, February 10, Robibero Family Vineyards is hosting “Sweet and Sinful Revenge Wine and Cupcake Pairing,” where guests can learn about the winemaking process and food pairing. Guests will also sample four wines from Robibero Family Vineyards, which they can pair with cupcakes from JJ’s Rockin’ Cupcakes, a popular local pastry shop.

The following weekend, February 16-17, Brimstone Hill Winery is holding its 14th annual Champagne and Chocolate Pairing event. Guests are encouraged to sample from a selection of gourmet foods and wines available, creating their own flavor pairings in the process. The event will take place at the romantic Brimstone Hill Winery and feature barrel tastings, food and games. Guests will also receive a champagne flute filled with fine chocolates to either enjoy at the winery or take home to try later.

For art lovers, Cornell Street Studios is holding an exhibition February 9. The Studio’s third annual Valentine’s Art and Music show will feature local Kingston artists, live music performed by classical guitarist David Temple and a bazaar of locally crafted gifts. It is the perfect opportunity for couples to mingle and share their appreciation for artistic expression.

Strolling through the Kingston Winter Farmers Market on Saturday, February 16 is a great way to start a romance-filled day. Open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the market is the perfect place to pick up some fresh and locally sourced produce and artisan foods for an intimate meal with your special someone.

More adventurous couples may choose to embark on an adrenaline-filled afternoon of downhill skiing or snowboarding, as Ulster County is home to some of the finest trails in the country. Belleayre Mountain features 55 skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing trails, making it easy to pick one to match you and your partner’s skill level.
