New Paltz, N.Y. (July 19, 2012) – The Ulster County Fair will return for another year of great food, exciting events and family fun beginning Tuesday, July 31 and running through Sunday, Aug. 5.
“We’re looking forward to about this year’s Ulster County Fair, one of the longest-running fairs in the United States,” said County Executive Mike Hein. “The Fair has always had a great reputation for being a fun family environment, and in its 125th year this summer, it is truly an historic event. With the great talent coming to our stages and all of the different activities going on, I encourage everyone to bring their whole family and experience the fair for themselves.”
The old-fashioned country fair, which features food, rides, agricultural displays and more, is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. General admission will be $15 per person, with free admission for children under 4 years old.
This year’s entertainment will feature an impressive lineup of artists and musicians, including country music star Lee Brice, the Village People, John Michael Montgomery and many others. The entertainment schedule includes:
- Hot Rod Band: Tuesday, July 31 – One show at 7 p.m.
- Lee Brice: Wednesday, Aug. 1 – One show at 8 p.m.
- The Village People: Thursday, Aug. 2 – One show at 8 p.m.
- TG Sheppard and Janie Fricke: Friday, Aug. 3 – Two shows 4 and 8 p.m.
- Amber Leigh: Saturday, Aug. 4 – Two shows 4 and 8 p.m.
- John Michael Montgomery: Sunday, Aug. 5 – One show at 5:30 p.m.
Brice is known for his recent hits “A Woman Like You” and “Love Like Crazy,” and is a rising star in the country music world. He has co-written songs with Garth Brooks and Tim McGraw, and has also been nominated by the Academy of Country Music Awards and the CMT Music Awards.
The fair will also host a number of different exhibits and booths each day, with many offering hands-on learning activities and recreational opportunities. Visitors can check out the petting zoo, watch the pig races, view a K9 police demonstration, cheer on a tractor pull or take a look at the many different animals on display. Fairgoers can also take in a variety of the outstanding cuisines available from a variety of food vendors.
“Ulster County Executive Hein is very happy to welcome back the Ulster County Fair,” said Richard J. Remsnyder, Director of Ulster County Tourism. “This event is known far and wide, and brings plenty of people in from all around the state each year, giving us a chance to showcase all that Ulster County has to offer. This year, we’re expecting a great turnout and hope to give visitors a reason to keep coming back each year.”
The fair will have several special admission days, including Car Load Night on Tuesday, July 31, which is $40 per carload, as well as free admission for all seniors arriving between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2. Hours for the Ulster County Fair will begin at 10 a.m. each day, except Tuesday when gates open at 4 p.m. Gates will close at 10 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday and 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission to the Ulster County Fair includes free parking, entertainment and rides. Tickets can be purchased at the gate of the fairgrounds, located at 249 Libertyville Road in New Paltz.
