ULSTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE HEIN UNVEILS TOURISM VIDEOS

Videos Promote Places to Stay, Things to Do

Kingston, N.Y. (November 30, 2011) – Ulster County Executive Mike Hein announced today the release of two videos that will be used to promote both accommodations and recreation opportunities in Ulster County.

Ulster County Tourism officials worked with Focus Media, Inc., the organization’s advertising agency of record, and the Ellenbogen group, a Kingston-based audio, video and multimedia production company to produce the two videos, entitled “Places to Stay in Ulster County, N.Y.” and “Things to Do in Ulster County, N.Y.” The videos can be viewed at www.UlsterCountyAlive.com, in addition to hundreds of available lodging options and recreational activities.

“With the completion of these videos, future and returning visitors will have a chance to see the full scope of tourism opportunities available in our beautiful county,” Hein said. “In just a few short minutes, viewers can see what incredible potential a trip to Ulster County has in store—whether you’re interested in cabins and dude ranches, or high-end spas and resorts, we have something for everyone.”

Production crews and professional talent spent four days in all corners of the County, capturing majestic views and a wide array of activities and locations, including everything from water rafting and cross-county skiing, to resorts, spas and dude ranches.

Tourism in Ulster County is growing. Bed tax revenue in the County during the first three quarters of this year is up about 5 percent over the first three quarters of 2010. Most importantly, the figures this year were achieved despite Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Irene.

“Under the leadership of County Executive Mike Hein, Ulster County Tourism has made substantial improvements to the marketing of Ulster County,” said Michael Zalkin, owner of Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park. “Tourism property operators have been consulted, and their suggestions have been implemented. This is particularly true regarding the new videos on the county tourism web site and the hiring of professional consultants for a comprehensive Internet marketing strategy. It is just this type of appropriate and insightful action that Ulster County needs to promote tourism, and to generate economic development and tax revenue.”

Ulster County, located less than 90 minutes from midtown Manhattan, has 250,000 of forever-wild acres encompassing 35 peaks and 350 miles of hiking trails. From biking to hiking, from kayaking to wind surfing, from hitting the sweet spot on one of our 12 golf courses to horseback riding and fly-fishing, it is truly a four-season recreation area. The county’s rural vistas provide beauty for each one.
