ULSTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE MIKE HEIN ANNOUNCES HOLIDAY SHOPPING EVENTS

KINGSTON, N.Y. (November 16, 2012) – Ulster County Executive Mike Hein has announced a number of holiday shopping events happening in the area during the next month.

These events are a great way to meet people and take in some great shopping opportunities at the start of the holiday season. With appearances by Santa Claus, horse-drawn carriage rides and more, local businesses and organizations in Ulster County continue to come through with great events for the entire family.

“This holiday season looks to be another memorable one for Ulster County, with a number of outstanding events happening in communities all across our area,” said Hein. “These events, many of which take place every year, help us ring in the holiday season the right way. It’s just another part of what makes Ulster County such a great place to live, work and play.”

On November 30, Downtown Unwrapped allows shoppers to take a stroll through downtown New Paltz and take in beautiful sights, hot cocoa and a variety of shops that are some of the best the Hudson Valley has to offer. Participating stores will be offering exclusive discounts, and there will also be special events like a gnome hunt and a chance for kids to visit with Santa Claus. Downtown Unwrapped starts at 6 p.m. at Water Street Market.

Taking place the first two weekends of December will be Wreath Fineries at the Wineries through the Shawangunk Wine Trail. Attendees receive a handmade grape wreath before venturing down the wine trail to 11 different wineries in southern Ulster and Orange counties, getting a beautiful ornament at each stop along with tastings of special holiday foods and discounts on wine. Tickets for Wreath Fineries at the Wineries start at around $40 each.

On December 2, Saugerties Holiday in the Village gets the holiday shopping season kicked off with a fun atmosphere for the entire family. Starting at noon with holiday music in Reis Parking Lot until the last restaurant closes in the evening, this event is a mainstay in Saugerties, featuring outstanding shops and great restaurants. Holiday in the Village takes place on Partition, Main and Market streets, and also includes craft stations, horse-drawn carriage rides and visits with Santa and a community tree-lighting at Reis Parking lot at 5 p.m.

The Snowflake Festival and Holiday Open House in Kingston, taking place December 7 at 5 p.m., will feature a holiday parade, strolling carolers, ice carvers, horse-drawn carriage rides and Santa Claus. Residents can also visit local shops, restaurants and cafes, and there will be a fireworks display at 8 p.m.

At the 31st Annual Woodstock Holiday Open House, visitors can enjoy events, music, raffles, carolers, treats and a special appearance by Frosty the Snowman. Taking place December 7 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., it’s a favorite event of Woodstock residents and visitors alike, as it features decorated storefronts, beautiful decorations and thousands of people strolling the village streets.

On December 15, the seventh annual Frozendale Daze helps to reignite local art, music and commerce by getting people to visit Rosendale’s Main Street to experience all that it has to offer. The yearly event includes musical performances by local artists, an early evening parade, raffles, a puppet show, hayrides, visits with Santa, a craft show and much more. Frozendale Daze goes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
