ULSTER COUNTY EXECUTIVE HEIN ANNOUNCES 2012 ULSTER COUNTY ARTS AND MUSIC WEEK

KINGSTON, N.Y. (August 1, 2012) – Ulster County Executive Mike Hein is pleased to announce the events for the 2012 Ulster County Arts and Music Week. The Week will take place from August 4 – 11, and is scheduled to include a wide variety of activities throughout the County, from Wallkill, Ellenville and Woodstock to Highmount, New Paltz, and Phoenicia, with events in lots of places in between.

“While arts and music flourish year round in Ulster County, the Ulster County Arts & Music Week gives us an opportunity to show area residents and visitors how many amazing things happen in Ulster County at any given time,” said County Executive Hein.  “The 2012 Ulster County Arts and Music Week spectacular features over 60 different events throughout the County and offers something for every style and taste. Ulster County Arts & Music Week is one of many special events in Ulster County.  I invite everyone to enjoy these spectacular performances and excellent art exhibits and to remember – there is always something wonderful to do in Ulster County.”

“The Belleayre Music Festival is grateful to Ulster County Executive Mike Hein for hosting an annual week celebrating the arts in all its forms,” said Mel Litof, Executive Director, Belleayre Music Festival. “We are delighted to join so many other arts presenters in highlighting the multitude of choices available in Ulster County. Our Catskill Mountain Jazz Series, now in its 21st year has presented the greatest names in Jazz, including this year’s Pat Metheny Unity Band, and we are sure the County Executive’s efforts will help us have another successful one. ”

According to Barbara Bravo, Ceramic Artist and Coordinator of the Saugerties Artists Studio Tour, “Arts and music week is a wonderful opportunity for artists to reach out to the Ulster County community and share the richness of their experiences.

The highly anticipated Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice, which includes world-class performances in multiple venues in Phoenicia and the surrounding areas, will start two days before the festival on Aug. 2 and have its main event – Madama Butterfly – on Aug. 4. On Aug. 11, visitors to the Belleayre Music Festival will have the opportunity to enjoy 19-time Grammy winner and Jazz legend, Pat Metheny and his Unity Band as the close out to the week-long Catskill Mountain Jazz Festival.

The Saugerties Artists Studio Tour will take place during Ulster County Arts and Music Week. Also, First Saturday at A.S.K. features two new exhibits during the month, including “Vincent Connelly,” distinguished artist, and “Eve,” The Woman’s Point of View Members Group Show.
