$748,900 grant from New York State for next phase of water project.
LIBERTY, N.Y. (December 20, 2017) – The Town of Liberty has been awarded a $748,900 grant from New York State for the next phase of water system improvements in the White Sulphur Springs District. The grant was given as part of the Community Development Block Grant program, which is administered in New York State by the Office of Community Renewal. The funding was announced on December 13th at a ceremony in Albany.
The new grant, Phase 8, will fund improvements to the district’s aging and deteriorating cement pipes. Phase 8 of this project will replace approximately 1,800 linear feet of cement pipe along White Sulphur Roald. The projected is expected to be completed in October 2018.
Just last year, the Town of Liberty received a $745,299 for the project, which was the largest awarded in Sullivan County. Last year’s grant was used for Phase 7 of a long-term, phased improvement program for the White Sulphur Springs Water District. Phase 7 and Phase 8 of this project are both a result of the teamwork between the Town’s Water Department, Delaware Engineering and the Liberty Town Board.
“Receiving this grant is wonderful news for our town,” said Liberty Town Supervisor Brian Rourke. “We can now provide improved infrastructure for the community. This was a result of teamwork, dedication and hard work.”
Mark Blauer of Blauer Associates was the grant writer for the project. Rourke said Blauer was “responsible for submitting the application and would not have happened if it wasn’t for him.” Blauer added “This was a team effort and with the help of Delaware Engineering producing excellent reports, it made my task of presenting the project to the State much easier.”
The Town of Liberty will continue to implement future phases of work to target the remainder of the aging system, until the district’s aging water distribution system has been fully replaced.
