April 8, 2013 – Harris, N.Y. – The Cancer Services Program of Sullivan County, administered by Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC), recently won a contest and was awarded “Best Overall Entry” for the Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month Commitment and Creativity Contest put on by Positive Promotions, Inc.
CRMC’s entry beat out more than 60 applicants nationally by detailing all of their special activities that were held throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Some of these activities included holding several free cancer screenings; posting breast cancer awareness signage throughout the Sullivan County; setting up informational tables at key locations throughout the county; writing an article on breast cancer awareness that was placed in a local newspaper and several other activities.
Held annually in October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month aims to educate the public about the disease, preventative measures and early detection. According to the National Cancer Institute, it is estimated that 22,060 new breast cancer cases were diagnosed in 2012. Screening for breast cancer with a clinical breast exam and a mammogram can help physicians detect early forms of the disease, when it is most treatable.
The Cancer Services Program of Sullivan County provides free breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening to low income, uninsured and underinsured men and women in Sullivan County. For more information on the program, contact 845-794-3300 ext. 2186.
