The last steel beam was hoisted up into place for the $85 million Kaplan Hall at SUNY Orange Newburgh. SUNY Orange President Dr. William Richards, Orange County Executive Edward Diana, Congressman Maurice Hinchey and NYS Senator William Larkin were joined by college and county officials, Newburgh Mayor Nick Valentine and neighborhood residents for the occasion.
Dr. Richards was enthused to see the final steel beam go up, and told those gathered he looks forward to the completion of the building when it will serve 2,200 college students. Those attending the event were invited to sign the beam before it was hoisted into place. Kaplan Hall will overlook the Hudson River at Grand and First, adjacent to the college’s existing building which will undergo renovation after Kaplan Hall opens. SUNY Orange Newburgh Vice President Mindy Ross hosted a reception after the ceremony. Kaplan Hall will bring a library, state of the art science labs, and more classrooms to the existing campus in Newburgh.
