Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center opens satellite at Edward Williams School
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (February 2, 2018) – Mount Vernon students at Edward Williams School are eligible to receive healthcare services at the School Based Health Center, a satellite of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center.
“The goal of the School Based Health Center at Edward Williams School is to provide comprehensive pediatric health coverage for medically underserved children in the Mount Vernon community,” said Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton, Mount Vernon City School District Superintendent. “By offering medical services to our students, we help ensure their continued success and provide preventative healthcare. This impacts their performance in school and provides additional community based services to parents”
The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or whenever school is in session. Edward Williams students in Pre-K through Grade 6, with and without insurance, can receive a full range of health services including: annual physicals, lab work, and immunizations, as well as acute care and first-aid treatments.
Behavioral health therapy is available for students every Monday and Wednesday and nutrition counseling is available the first and third Wednesday of the month.
“Opening this center has allowed our school to better serve its students,” said Dr. Crystal Waterman, Edward Williams School Principal. “The School Based Health Center provides preventative health services that students may not otherwise receive, which impacts their academic success.”
Staff at the center can connect parents looking to enroll in health insurance with representatives from Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center to provide the necessary information and paperwork.
“Every child deserves a healthy and wholesome future,” said Suma Joshua, RPA-C, who heads the School Based Health Center at Edward Williams School. “A child’s education is important, but their health, in my perspective, is just as vital.”
No billing or financing is completed through the School Based Health Center at the Williams School.
Registration packets are available at the center or main office at Edward Williams School. For more information, call 914-668-6828 or visit www.mountvernonhealthcenter.org.
