Bus companies holding lottery to determine drivers; local winner has chance
at nationals in Ohio
South Fallsburg, N.Y. (March 13, 2012) – Rolling V Bus Corp. and Gershowitz Transportation, both Sullivan County-based bus transportation companies, are sponsoring cars in the upcoming 1st Annual Sullivan County Soap Box Derby this Memorial Day weekend. Winners have a chance to go to nationals this summer.
“We’re extremely dedicated to the families and children we serve and we can’t wait to get this exciting project started,” said Ken Engle, Head of Safety & Training at Rolling V and Gershowitz. “This is going to be a great opportunity for the children.”
The two companies will each sponsor a soap box car for the derby and will hold a lottery in the school districts they serve – Ellenville, Fallsburg, Liberty, Livingston Manor, Roscoe and Tri-Valley – to decide which two lucky children will have honor and privilege of building the cars over the next few months and racing on Sunday, May 27 in Liberty, N.Y.
The winner of the Sullivan County race will move on for a chance to compete at the 75th Annual All-American Soap Box Derby competition series on Saturday, July 21 at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio.
Phil Vallone, president at Rolling V and Gershowitz, added, “Safety is, and always has been, our No.1 priority, and in building the cars with these two lucky kids, we’ll be able to teach them first-hand the importance of proper maintenance and infuse in them leadership and responsibility.”
Students who are not picked in the lottery may still join the Sullivan County Soap Box Derby by contacting the Greater Liberty Chamber of Commerce at 845-292-9797 or libertychamber@yahoo.com
Rolling V and Gershowitz are proud members of the New York School Bus Contractors Association and the American School Bus Council. The companies are family-owned and operated by the Vallone and DeSabato families. The Vallone Family has been in the passenger transportation business for more than 50 years.
