Rolling V Driver Eugene Sangnier Awarded Title of NYSBCA Rookie of the Year

New driver recognized by statewide organization for safe, quality driving.

South Fallsburg, N.Y. (June 5, 2018) – Rolling V Bus Corp., a Catskill Region-based school bus transportation company, announced one of its drivers, Eugene Sangnier, received the “Rookie of the Year” award from the New York School Bus Contractors Association (NYSBCA).

The NYSBCA’s 47th Annual New York State School Bus Safety Competition was held on May 19 at Rockland Lake State Park in Valley Cottage, with over 100 drivers participating. Sangnier won the award for Rookie of the Year, and also placed in the category of Small Bus (Type A).

“This event was so great to be a part of, and bringing home a couple of awards for Rolling V was an honor,” said Sangnier. “There were some really dedicated drivers present. It’s comforting to see that there are people out there who are just as devoted to safety and quality as we are at Rolling V. Awards are great, but that reassurance was priceless.”

Sangnier has worked with Rolling V since August 2016. He received his license through the company’s commercial driver license training program in September 2016 and is currently a driver for the Ellenville School District out of the company’s Ellenville Terminal.

All of the drivers at the event competed in a specific school bus division, including Type A (smaller vans) and Type C and D (larger conventional buses). The event began with an in-depth written exam on school bus safety topics, and continued throughout the day with practical skills tests including vehicle inspections, loading and unloading students, proceeding through railroad crossings, driving the bus through specially designed driving courses and more.

All of the winners in each category are now eligible to compete in a competition hosted by the National School Transportation Association (NSTA), the International School Bus Safety Competition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 21 and 22.

“Rolling V’s main concern is the safety and comfort of our students,” said President of Rolling V, Phil Vallone. “Eugene’s performance in this competition was terrific, and we’re pleased to see that so many drivers out there are committed to transportation quality and safety.”
