South Fallsburg, N.Y. (Dec. 9, 2022) – Twelve students from four Hudson Valley school districts received awards for creating posters that promote school bus safety in a contest run by the Rolling V Bus Corp. The company held the contest to mark National School Bus Safety Week.
“We received an overwhelming response to our contest,” said Rolling V Executive Vice President Nick Vallone. “It was wonderful to see so many students thinking about school bus safety, and even more, to see the creative, heartfelt posters they created. Our safety team had an extremely difficult job choosing the winners.”
The winners, by school district, were:

1st Place: Jocelyn Zempoaltecatl, grade 5
2nd Place: Leonardo Sabovic, grade 1
3rd Place: Maydelin Jacobo Lopez, grade 2

The winners received gift cards of $100 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Students received the awards from Rolling V leaders in presentations held in each district.
The contest began during National School Bus Safety Week, the third week in October. It was open to all elementary school students in the districts that Rolling V serves. They are the Ellenville, Fallsburg, Liberty, Livingston Manor, Tri-Valley and Walton Central School Districts as well as the Roscoe Central School. Rolling V buses travel more than 3 million miles each year.
The Rolling V Safety Team, which judged the contest, looked for original drawings and artwork illustrating the theme, “Rolling Safely to My Destination.” The posters took a positive look at safety, illustrating proper school bus safety behaviors. Rolling V encouraged art teachers and instructors to supervise the work.
“The contest was a huge success,” Vallone said. “While we chose posters for first, second and third place, every student who entered gained something valuable by keeping school bus safety in mind and promoting it to others.”
