Program part of local effort to get veterans back to work
South Fallsburg, N.Y. – March 7, 2011 – Rolling V Bus Corp and Gershowitz Transportation are now offering FREE commercial driver’s license training to all veterans to help prepare them for the transition from military to civilian life.
The course, operated through the companies’ training division Mutual Training Corp., was created to offer local veterans an opportunity to obtain a CDL through continuing education, and help provide supplemental income for those who may continue to struggle financially.
There is no obligation to be employed by Rolling V or Gershowitz following the training program, but, if an opportunity exists upon graduation, the bus companies would consider them for employment. The only requirement for the program is a clean driver’s license.
Vallone, whose son Phillip Vallone, Jr., is a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, believes it is the duty of local businesses to assist returning veterans in the transition back to civilian life.
“As a matter of principle, we believe all returning veterans should be afforded priority in hiring when returning to their communities as long as they are qualified for the positions they are applying for,” said Vallone. “That’s where we come in. Having a CDL license is a valuable asset and is always something they can fall back on.”
Veterans of all ages interested in the program can contact Mutual Training Corp. at (845) 434-4102.
Municipal employees and first responders are also encouraged to contact Mutual Training Corp. to take advantage of this opportunity. Training fees for this program are also waived for the two groups.
Rolling V and Gershowitz are proud members of the New York School Bus Contractors Association and the American School Bus Council. The companies are family-owned and operated by the Vallone and DeSabato families. The Vallone family has been in the passenger transportation business for more than 50 years.
