Gardiner, N.Y. (April 27, 2011) – The Gardiner Cupcake Festival, an old-fashioned block party filled with live music, local food and shopping, is set for May 15.
One of the region’s most popular celebrations, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Main Street in the quaint hamlet of Gardiner in Ulster County. The festival is a cupcake-themed day for the whole family.
“The Cupcake Festival puts Gardiner in the spotlight and it’s a great event to bring the community out for what we hope will be a beautiful spring day,” Ulster County Executive Mike Hein said. “The festival is another great way of showcasing our lovely county. It’s really been a lot of fun to watch the event gain so much popularity.”
The Cupcake Festival was first held in 2009 and quickly became one of the premier family-friendly events in the Hudson Valley, attracting vendors and patrons from across the state. Festivities for this year’s event include a cupcake bake off, cupcake decorating and many cupcakes for sale. Fifteen professional cupcake vendors will be spread across Main Street and bakers will provide demonstrations throughout the day.
“It showcases the sweeter side of Gardiner,” said Heidi Hill-Haddard, the Cupcake Festival’s creative director. “This festival is the pride of the community. It lets us host something fun and enjoyable during a great time of the year.”
Radio Woodstock (WDST, 100.1 FM), one of the festival’s sponsors, will be on hand, playing music and providing giveaways. Along with the cupcakes, one of the signatures of The Cupcake Festival is live music, bringing together an eclectic group of artists. The lineup for May 15 includes Vito Petroccitto, Tanager, Swear and Shake, The Conner Kennedy Band and The Joanna Teters Experiment.
In addition, local restaurants will serve creative meals, and wineries will host tastings. Taps will be open in the Cupcake Festival’s Beer Garden. Tables and chairs will border an open area in front of the performance stage, leaving plenty of room for dancing and dining al fresco. For the kids, there will be pony rides, a jumpy house and children’s dance performances.
“The Gardiner Cupcake Festival is growing in leaps and bounds and is becoming one of the highlights of the spring tourism season,” said Ulster County Tourism director Richard J. Remsnyder. “We’re hopeful that thousands of visitors will come to Gardiner to enjoy great food, wonderful music and fantastic shopping. Gardiner is one of Ulster County’s gems and it certainly will be the place to be on May 15th.”
The Cupcake Festival will be held rain or shine. For more information on the event, visit www.gardinercupcakefestival.com.
