NANUET, N.Y. (March 25, 2015) — Partners In Safety, the Hudson Valley’s leading provider of employee drug testing, occupational health services and background screening services, has announced that Family Nurse Practitioner Chris Davies Nevin, FNP-BC, has received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Duke University.
Nevin oversees operations in Partners In Safety’s Nanuet office. The doctoral level of education is geared toward evidence-based medicine and provides the highest level of education in nursing.
Nevin conducted her capstone doctoral project on identifying signs and symptoms of sleep apnea in public employees, such as Department of Transportation workers and drivers, and determining who is most at-risk by using screening tools. Screening for sleep apnea with public employees is an area of expertise for Partners In Safety and Nevin’s research will create safer work environments for public employees.
“Partners In Safety is very proud of Chris’s accomplishments in the nursing field and in trendsetting screening for sleep apnea with public employees,” said President and CEO Ursula Clancy, RN, FNP. “Her exceptional level of knowledge will only help her as a manager of our Nanuet office and the entire Partners In Safety company.”
Nevin’s family history includes a significant local female doctor. Her great-grandmother, Dr. Lucy Meriwether Davies, was one of the first female physicians in New York State and the U.S., and is famous locally for delivering more than 6,000 babies in Congers, Valley Cottage and Rockland Lake. She and her husband, Arthur B. Davies, purchased what is now called Dr. Davies Farm in 1891. The family still farms the property today.
“Partners In Safety provides the best care and testing services for its clients,” Nevin said. “This degree will only help Partners In Safety continue to give the highest level of knowledge and heightened decision-making that our clients deserve.”
Nevin has been with Partners In Safety for seven years. Before that she had been an emergency department nurse at various local hospitals regionally. She has received her Master of Science in Nursing from Pace University in 1999, her Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dominican College in 1995 and her Bachelor of Arts from Fordham University in 1993.
