Orange Regional Medical Center to Host Film “Screenagers”

Middletown, NY – Orange Regional Medical Center will host the film “Screenagers” during Screen Free Week (April 29-May 1). The film will be shown at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019 at SUNY Orange’s Rowley Center for Science and Engineering, Room 10 located at 115 South Street, in Middletown, NY. Registration is required.  To register, visit www.bit.ly/ScreenagersOrange.  We encourage parents and their teenagers to attend together, if possible.

“Screenagers” is an award-winning film that shares a look into family life and shows struggles often faced over social media, video games and academics. The film offers solutions on how to help kids navigate the digital world. Screen time crosses into all aspects of kids’ lives. In addition to the screening of the film, the event will feature community organizations that will offer screen free activities.

A panel discussion at the end of the film will feature experts including Joseph Chavez Carey, MD, FAAFP, Primary Care Medical Director, Orange Regional Medical Group & Catskill Regional Medical Group; Rachel Wilson, Executive Director, Youth Bureau of Orange County; Julika von Stackelberg, Parenting & Family Life Educator, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Orange County and Tammy Rhein, LCSW, CASAC, CPP, Director of Chemical Dependency / Adult Mental Health, Department of Mental Health of Orange County. The discussions will center on health figures and statistics, screen time limitations, suggested activities and much more.

During Screen Free Week, communities around the United States unplug from digital entertainment and spend all that free time playing, reading, creating, exploring, and connecting with family and friends. For more ideas on how to go screen free, visit www.screenfree.org.
