Orange Regional Medical Center Hosts Free ‘Stop the Bleed’ Training Course

(Middletown, NY) – Orange Regional Medical Center will offer free ‘Stop the Bleed’ training courses from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Orange Regional Medical Center’s Conference Center located at 707 East Main Street in Middletown, NY. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To register, call 1-888-321-6762.

The ‘Stop the Bleed’ course is being offered in partnership with Mobile Life. The course is designed to teach the community how to recognize and control life-threatening hemorrhages (heavy bleeding) by using tourniquets and wound packing. No first aid or healthcare experience is necessary.

“It is important that more community members know how to control bleeding should an emergency arise,” said Injury Prevention Coordinator at Orange Regional Medical Center, John Nowinski. “This class gives basic training to civilians so they can assist with bleeding control that can save lives.”

One of the most common causes of death after traumatic injury is uncontrolled bleeding. The ‘Stop the Bleed’ campaign was created by a federal interagency workgroup convened by the National Security Council Staff of The White House to build resilience by better preparing the public to save lives. This campaign raises awareness of basic actions to stop life threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies.

For more information and to register for the ‘Stop the Bleed’ course, contact Orange Regional Medical Center’s Health Connection Hotline at 1-888-321-6762 or visit www.ormc.org/rsvp and select ‘Stop the Bleed’ in the drop down menu. Organizations interested in scheduling group classes of 10 or more should contact John Nowinski at jnowinski@ghvhs.org or 845-333-1379.
