Orange Regional Medical Center Certifies 14 New Freedom From Smoking Program Facilitators

Middletown, NY – Elyse Carroll BSRC, RRT, CTTS, Manager of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Orange Regional Medical Center, recently led the certification of 14 new Freedom From Smoking Facilitators. All newly-certified facilitators will teach (or take part in teaching) the eight week American Lung Association smoking cessation program which has helped more than a million smokers quit since it was developed in 1980.

Amanda Langseder, Community Health Director for Orange Regional and Catskill Regional Medical Centers states, “Our goal is to positively impact the health of communities by increasing access to smoking cessation programs with the participation of these outstanding new cessation facilitators. Huge thanks to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department for helping to expand community resources for smoking cessation.”

The American Lung Association’s ‘Freedom from Smoking’ Workshop is a smoking cessation program designed to help participants overcome tobacco addiction so they can enjoy the benefits of better health, extra money in their pocket and healthier relationships. Ongoing support and counseling are vital if participants are going to be successful in maintaining their freedom from smoking.

By the end of the workshop, participants will learn how to make the quitting process easier, better prepare for Quit Day, better manage stress, learn how to avoid weight gain, work toward developing a new self-image and more. As incentive to attend all 8 sessions, participants will be qualified to receive free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (lozenges & gum) valued at approximately $50.
