Middletown, N.Y. (June 7, 2011)
Eugene Peterson, general manager at Orange Country Club, said, “We remain committed to upgrading our facilities to provide for a better golfing experience, both for our current members and our prospective members. The recent treacherous winter has provided a great challenge for us to overcome and we not only replaced the damaged greens, but upgraded them to ensure the golf course’s integrity and prestige for years to come.”
Orange County Executive Edward Diana said, “We understand that many businesses in Orange County are struggling during these tough economic times, and it’s great to see businesses like Orange Country Club striving to improve the quality of its services for its members. We wish them the best of luck during this beautiful summer season.”
After a harsh winter, the golf club had to resurface all 18 of its putting greens due to snow and ice damage. All 18 holes suffered minor damage; while nine were so damaged they were unplayable. The club invested $200,000 in resurfacing all 18 holes with a more resistant type of grass.
The ceremony included a special recognition of all Orange County military personnel, past and present, in commemoration of Memorial Day, as well as a putting contest and barbeque for all in attendance.
Founded in 1899, at the halfway point between the City of Middletown and the Village of Goshen in an area known then as Midway Park, Orange Country Club is a private club. What was once lush farmland with rolling hills nested along the majestic Wallkill River is now the site of one of the Mid-Hudson’s finest golf courses.
