Organization furthers mission to enhance biotech industry in Hudson Valley
NEW WINDSOR, NY (June 25, 2012) – NY BioHud Valley, a local organization that recognizes and promotes the growing cluster of biotechnology, pharmaceutical and life science companies in the Hudson Valley region, has achieved trademark registration from the U.S. federal government.
The trademark registration will allow NY BioHud Valley to distinguish itself from other organizations and protect the integrity of its mission and identity. Trademark registration grants the organization the exclusive right to use its mark, through use of the “®” symbol wherever the mark is used, in connection with its services.
“We are very pleased to announce that NY BioHud Valley has been awarded an official trademark registration,” said Mike Oates, President and CEO of Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. (HVEDC), which created NY BioHud Valley. “This will allow us to continue building our brand, and we look forward to establishing ourselves further as the premier organization for biotechnology, pharmaceutical and life science businesses and organizations in our region.”
NY BioHud Valley was created to act as a partner to county, state and federal governments in fostering an environment that allows businesses in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries to expand, while also attracting new companies to the Hudson Valley. The organization engages in pro-business advocacy designed to reduce legislative burdens, promotes collaboration between businesses and educational institutions and assists companies with access to venture capital.
“As the county’s initial contribution to this critical regional economic growth initiative, the ‘NY BioHud Valley’ brand was developed in partnership with Westchester-based creative professionals (Co-Communications and The Harquin Creative Group) and trademark secured by intellectual property experts, White Plains-based Leason Ellis,” said Laurence P. Gottlieb, Director of Economic Development for Westchester County and co-founder of NY BioHud Valley. “Protecting the organization’s intellectual property became paramount, as the organization has grown so rapidly, and built such a solid reputation among life science executives, that we feared BioHud’s phenomenal success would spur others to misuse our brand for their own gain.”
