NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (July 10, 2019) – Dr. Laura Feijóo, who will become the City School District of New Rochelle’s new Superintendent of Schools on Nov. 1, will host a Dialogue with the Community later this month so that residents in New Rochelle will have the opportunity to share their views, hopes and aspirations for the future of the District, and hear her vision for the path forward.
The meeting will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, in the Linda E. Kelly Theater at New Rochelle High School (use the entrance off Braemar and North avenues). It is part of her commitment to beginning an ongoing dialogue with the residents of New Rochelle.
Dr. Feijóo was appointed by the City School District of New Rochelle on June 28. She currently serves the New York City Department of Education in the capacity of Senior Superintendent. In this role, she is directly responsible for supporting the Chancellor’s vision for schools across all divisions in policy and labor management. In addition, Dr. Feijóo was selected by her colleagues to serve as President of the New York State Council of School Superintendents during the 2017-2018 school year. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degree in special education and specialist diploma in educational leadership, all from Queens College. She earned her doctorate degree in educational leadership from New York University.
In her Dialogue with the Community, Dr. Feijóo will discuss her vision, administrative plans and commitment to upholding the direction set forth in the District’s Strategic Road Map. She has already begun implementing her vision as she plans to:
• Hire a Diversity and Equity Officer, who will work in concert with both the Human Resources Office and Office of Curriculum and Instruction.
• Make herself available prior to her entry into the District to visit the schools and to work with and support central administration and building leaders on critical initiatives and new hires in the District.
• Commit to an open door relationship with all members of the New Rochelle community, understanding that relationships are built on trust that must be earned, and that true understanding of needs and potential solutions occurs when people work together toward a common goal.
“Dr. Feijóo is excited to hear from, and work together with, members of this community to drive our District and community forward,” Board President Amy Moselhi said. “Her body of work speaks to a 30-year commitment to access and equity for all along with a firm commitment to diversity. We believe that she will increase the access and academic rigor for all students in our district thereby addressing long standing achievement gaps.”
Please come join us July 17th. This will be the first of what we hope will be many more opportunities to meet Dr. Feijóo.
