For Sharon Flynn, the new Assistant Principal at Edgemont Junior-Senior High School, the warm greetings began before she even took the post.
A few weeks ago, she met parents while attending the junior high school’s production of The Little Mermaid. Her recent emails to the staff and community brought a slew of friendly welcomes from parents and others introducing themselves.
Flynn started in her role Monday, Dec. 12, 2022, touring the school with Principal Kyle Hosier and her fellow assistant principal, MaryRose Joseph. When Flynn met with the Principal’s Advisory Committee, student members introduced themselves and urged her to visit their classes to view in-progress projects.
“There’s such a welcoming feeling here,” Flynn said. “Every one of the students talked about what a tight-knit community this is. They say everybody is here for each other. I heard that when I first got here this morning and I thought, “I’m in the right place.’”
Edgemont Junior-High School educates about 950 students in grades 7 through 12. Flynn, who succeeds the retired Jennifer Johnson, serves as the assistant principal for grades 7 through 9. Joseph oversees higher grades. Flynn also will oversee the school’s master schedule and take a leadership role in school safety.
“We are happy to welcome Sharon Flynn as the newest member of the Edgemont School District family,” said Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that we know will be a tremendous asset to staff, students, parents and guardians.”
Flynn comes with 26 years’ experience as an educator, starting as an English teacher in 1996. She most recently served as an assistant principal in the Egg Harbor Township School District in New Jersey.
“She has a vast array of experiences in her career as a teacher and administrator,” Hosier said. “It’s clear that she is going to be able to build strong relationships with all stakeholders. She knows that Edgemont is a special place and I am excited to have her here.”
