Mount Vernon High School will become the first high school in Westchester County to adopt a park. The “Adopt a Park” program is offered through Westchester Parks Foundation and provides volunteers with an opportunity to maintain, preserve, develop, and improve parks and trails within the Westchester County Parks System. Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino will present an official proclamation to students who have taken their ecology lessons to their community to make a difference. Students have cleaned up the park, raised and released trout into local waters, done water and soil purity testing, built a blue bird box to bring back the native species and even planted edible blueberry bushes. Their hard work will be recognized and their role made official at this ceremony. Willson’s Woods Park is a Westchester County park.
