Experienced school administrator joins Mount Vernon district faculty
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (August 29, 2018) — Mount Vernon City School District recently welcomed Rodney McBride, an established school principal from Maryland, to the team of distinguished faculty at Benjamin Turner Middle School. He was appointed to the position of building principal at the August 28 Board of Education meeting and has already begun carrying out his administrative duties.
“I am excited to have Mr. McBride work in conjunction with the community of teachers, faculty, and staff at Benjamin Turner to create a positive and academically-stimulating environment for its students,” said Mount Vernon City School District Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton. “His experience and proven leadership skills – as both an administrator and a community member – will be a valuable asset to our District.”
As the principal of Benjamin Turner Middle School, McBride will be responsible for the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of educational and student services. His responsibilities will include working to create a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff; demonstrating commitment to closing the achievement gap; and assisting instructional staff with alignment of curriculum, instruction and assessment with state and local district learning goals; among others. He will also serve as an advocate for the staff, school, and school community.
“I was impressed with Superintendent Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton and his 20/20 Vision for the District. But when I interviewed for the position, it was more than just numbers, more than just talk; Mount Vernon immediately felt like home,” said McBride.
Prior to his role with the Mount Vernon City School District, McBride served as a comprehensive middle school principal, overseeing 1,200 students in grades 6-8 in Prince George, Md. He served in this role for five years.
“I grew up on a small farm and was fortunate to have dedicated educators that helped instill in me the potential for change that could be achieved through education,” he added. “I hope to be an asset to the District and help to grow leaders with my pastoral, educational, and data-driven background.”
McBride holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Recreation, Physical Education and Dance from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Fla. He went on to receive a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Fla. He also holds a Data Wise Improvement Process certification from Harvard University.
