School Board unanimously approved Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton’s contract extension
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (October 13, 2015) — Mount Vernon City School board members have unanimously approved a three-year contract extension for Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kenneth R. Hamilton. The extension will keep Dr. Hamilton at the helm of Mount Vernon City Schools through July 31, 2019. His former contract would have expired in 2016.
“Transformative leadership must also have stability,” said Board of Education President Elias Gootzeit, Esq. “With Superintendent Hamilton leading the charge, we can support and build on the innovative programs we have begun.”
Superintendent Hamilton’s initial contract began in August of 2014. Since taking the reins, he has taken measures to improve the district and increase student outcomes at all levels. This year, he presented a $230 million “Fiscal Plan for Academic Excellence.” The approved budget expanded several programs for students with no tax levy increase on homeowners.
“By showing unanimous support for my contract extension, the board is demonstrating its confidence in the direction the Mt. Vernon School District is going, and that direction is forward,” said Superintendent Hamilton. “I hope to earn the community’s trust, as well, by focusing on improving student achievement through opportunities that meet our diverse student body’s needs.”
