Collaborative program introduces business students to the world of arts and nonprofits
MONTGOMERY, N.Y. (October 19, 2016) – A new group of Mount Saint Mary College students were welcomed into the Walden Savings Bank Medici Program at a reception held October 20. The students were the second group inducted into the prestigious program since its inception in 2015.
The Walden Savings Bank Medici Program is a collaborative program that introduces undergraduate business and accounting students to the world of arts and nonprofits. At the reception, held at Walden Savings Bank’s headquarters in Montgomery, the students were introduced to leaders of the two nonprofit organizations taking part in this year’s program, Abilities First and the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra.
The competitive program is available to eight undergraduate business or accounting students each year. At the conclusion of the annual program, students will deliver a presentation to Walden Savings Bank’s leadership and board of directors. The presentation will review the students’ experiences, including what they learned and how they hope to apply it to their careers following graduation.
Walden Savings Bank’s endowed gift will allow Mount Saint Mary College to meet the financial needs of the program, including transportation and meeting costs as well as expenses incurred from program-related events on campus.
“Providing support to our community is at the heart of our mission,” said Walden Savings Bank President and CEO, Derrik R. Wynkoop. “Through the Medici Program, students are given the opportunity to gain important work experience and establish contacts in the community. In turn, the involved non-profit organizations gain needed assistance. We are thrilled to play a role in this exceptional program.”
“At Mount Saint Mary College, we’re committed to developing students by providing them with lifelong tools for success,” said Dr. David A. Kennett, Interim President of Mount Saint Mary College, “Programs such as the Walden Savings Bank Medici Program allow students to gain a more well-rounded experience that extends beyond the classroom.”
