Mild Weather Draws Visitors to Outdoor Destinations

Parks, Wineries and historic sites offer plenty to do in Orange County, NY this spring.

There are outdoor destinations to meet the tastes of everyone from history buffs to wine connoisseurs, art lovers to nature enthusiasts.

“After a winter spent indoors, folks are ready to head outdoors when spring is in the air,” said Orange County Tourism Director Susan Hawvermale. “The Hudson Valley is one of the most beautiful places in the world this time of the year, and our outdoor destinations are second to none.”

Top destinations for a spring visit to Orange County include:

World War I Commemoration, Museum Village, 1010 State Rte. 17M, Monroe, NY.  April 2, 11 am–3 pm. Pay tribute to the men who fought in this Great War and the lives lost. Enjoy demonstrations of military life and equipment. Adults – $12; Seniors – $10; Children (4-12) – $8. Children under 4 and Veterans Free. www.museumvillage.org.

Fish Stories on the Hudson, Fort Montgomery State Historic Site, 690 Route 9W, Fort Montgomery, NY. Saturday, April 9 at 1 pm. Discover what life was like on the Hudson for the men that fished it. Learn about the fish they pursued and the gear they used. Storytellers will include fishermen with over 100 years of net experience collectively. Call (845) 446-2134.

Storm King Arts Center, 1 Museum Road, New Windsor, NY, will reopen April 6, Wednesdays – Sundays, 10 am-5:30 pm and holiday Mondays. 500 acre world-renowned outdoor sculpture park and museum. Shawangunk Wine Trail’s “Pasta Primo Vino”, April 16-17. It’s a perfect time to enjoy the scenic patios and decks of Orange County’s best wineries.
