Local brewery continues high level of community involvement
NEW WINDSOR, N.Y. (Aug. 1, 2012) – Keegan Ales, a local brewery with strong ties to the region, has joined the Hudson Valley Food & Beverage Alliance as a founding member.
The brewery, which opened in 2003, produces a number of popular local beers from its Kingston location. Keegan Ales has built a reputation for purchasing local ingredients for all of its beers, as well as having a high degree of community involvement.
“We are thrilled to join the Food & Beverage Alliance and continue the tradition we’ve established of supporting the communities in which we do business,” said Tommy Keegan, Founder of Keegan Ales. “By working together, the organizations within the food and beverage fields can support each other and elevate the industry as a whole. We love our community and are proud of it, and we know that our region has a lot to offer.”
The Food & Beverage Alliance focuses on helping food and beverage companies in the area work together as strong partners and market their products all over the United States. Launched by the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corp. (HVEDC), the organization includes food businesses, farmers, vegetable growers, beverage makers, distributors and other organizations in the industry.
Keegan Ales produces a number of popular brews, including Mother’s Milk, which was named one of the top 10 stout beers by the New York Times in 2010. There is also Old Capital, a traditional, crisp beer, as well as Hurricane Kitty, a coppery India Pale Ale that has a heavily hopped taste. The brewery also produces various seasonal beers at different points in the year.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Keegan Ales as the newest member of the Food & Beverage Alliance, as this company has truly been a highlight of the Hudson Valley business community over the past decade,” said Mike Oates, President and CEO of the HVEDC. “This is an organization that has worked tirelessly to support its fellow businesses in the region, and we look forward to working with their team in the years to come.”
Keegan Ales’ community involvement includes taking on summer interns from local colleges and universities, including three current individuals who have majors in biochemistry, restaurant management and engineering. The company is also brewing a special beer for American Bounty, one of the restaurants of the Culinary Institute of America that is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
In addition, the brewery uses many local products in both its brewing operations and restaurant, and its new storefront will also sell locally produced artisanal foods such as cheeses, sauces, jellies, soaps and more. Keegan said this demonstrates the company’s dedication to its community and the power of having food and beverage businesses working together.
“We’ve recently added an Edelweiss soap to our product line that contains our Joe Mama’s Milk and coffee from our local roaster, Monkey Joe’s,” said Keegan. “What this means is that in one bar of soap, there are products from three unrelated businesses located within a mile of each other here in the Hudson Valley.”
