As a Choice client, Cordero has a personal connection with Elant
GOSHEN, N.Y. (June 14, 2012) – Elant, the Hudson Valley’s premier provider of senior health and housing solutions, is pleased announce that Julio Cordero has been appointed to the Elant Choice Board of Directors. Elant Choice, an affiliate of Elant with its own Board of Directors, is a managed long-term care plan for eligible adults 18 years and older that provides health and long-term care services to help clients remain in their homes for as long as possible, delaying or preventing placement in a nursing home.
Cordero has been an Elant Choice client for the past three years. At age 3, he was infected with polio and unable to walk. By 15, he had undergone 19 operations that resulted in his ability to walk with minor difficulties. Later, he became the poster child of polio when his story received the attention of Jerry Lewis.
Cordero has never allowed his physical condition to limit him. After graduating high school, he went on to study two years of drafting and political science and one year of pathology. He attended the State University of New York (SUNY) to study English as a second language, and while attending school, he worked at a church to finance his education.
Cordero served as a volunteer activity leader at Burton Towers for 12 years, organizing events for seniors living at their independent care apartments, an experience that will be an asset to the Elant Choice Board. Working with seniors and understanding their unique needs are among Cordero’s talents.
