October 10, 2012 (Newburgh, N.Y.) – The Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County is pleased to announce its annual Major Gifts Reception, which will honor Marlene and Gerald Jacobowitz, Donna Applegate and Jonah Mandelbaum. The event is held to recognize the generous support from members of the local Jewish community and will take place later this month.
Gerald (Jerry) Jacobowitz is a native of Orange County, having graduated from Walden High School. After being discharged from the US Army, Jerry and his wife, Marlene, returned to Orange County where he opened his single-practitioner law office, now Jacobowitz & Gubitz, LLP. Marlene is now a retired teacher and real estate manager.
Mandelbaum, who emigrated to the U.S. from Israel in 1970, later settled in Warwick in 1984 and established MJJ Builders, a design and construction firm for single-family homes. Applegate joined the company in 1990, and together, she and Jonah transitioned MJJ Builders to provide multi-family homes and communities in Orange County for seniors, individuals with special needs and those in the work force.
“We are proud to give these selfless and dedicated individuals the opportunity to be honored by the Jewish and Orange County communities,” said Joyce Waschitz, Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County. “Because of the generosity from these honorees, the Jewish Federation will continue to be able to support the needs of our community for many years to come. We are so pleased to have had the chance to witness the volunteerism and compassion that these people have shown.”
