GOSHEN, N.Y. (Mar. 24, 2014) — Elant will host a cocktail reception (sponsored by Rose & Kiernan and Fox Radio) on Thursday, April 17 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Ritz Theater/Safe Harbors of the Hudson in Newburgh to celebrate the third annual reception of the Jeffrey A. Weiss Memorial Art Series, a program that provides free art classes and exhibits to residents of Elant at Goshen, and programs to the senior community. Reservations are required. Additionally, the Ritz Theater gallery/Safe Harbors of the Hudson will feature Elant at Goshen residents’ artwork from April 10 through 28, and there will be an open house for the public on April 17 from 3 to 5 p.m.
The art series, which provides free classes, exhibits and performances, is a result of a bequest of $25,000 from the estate of Elias and Nettie P. Weiss. The generous gift to the Elant Foundation established the Jeffrey A. Weiss Memorial Art Series. The donation was specifically allotted to create an art series at Elant at Goshen in memory of the couple’s only child, Jeffrey. Jeffrey had a passion for the arts throughout his youth and into his adult life before passing from Hodgkins Lymphoma. Elant collaborates with the Orange County Arts Council and Wallkill River School, along with a committee of volunteers to facilitate the resources for the arts community to ensure the best quality of programming.
The art series continues making great strides to improve the lives of Elant at Goshen residents and seniors in the community by providing them with exposure to various forms of art. Another year full of activities is planned and new programs are being added.
“The Elant residents who participate in the classes are exposed to a range of activities and culture that enhance their abilities and improve their quality of life,” said Melissa McCoy, Elant’s Director of Corporate Initiatives and coordinator for the series. “The success of the Jeffrey A. Weiss Memorial Art Series is a perfect example of just how beneficial planned giving can be for a not-for-profit. It is our honor to facilitate this program in Jeffrey’s name.”
The Elant at Goshen residents who participate in the bi-weekly classes have been featured in Orange Magazine and most recently had three pieces selected by Leading Age, at their conferences and programs throughout New York State. The Jeffrey A. Weiss Memorial Art Series will soon begin to search for funding, in order to continue provide the valuable activities and therapeutic opportunities for all seniors in the community.
