POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (November 9, 2011) – HVFCU Financial Services raised $3,100 in donations and collected 96 coats for Dutchess Outreach during its annual Member Appreciation Celebration. Approximately 100 people attended the event on October 20th at Christo’s in Poughkeepsie.
“We’re thrilled by the generosity of attendees,” said Jeffrey G. Thatcher, CFP®, Director of HVFCU Financial Services. “This event is our way of showing appreciation for our members while supporting an organization that benefits our community.”
Dutchess Outreach is dedicated to feeding and clothing local residents who need a helping hand. They will use HVFCU Financial Services’ monetary donation to provide the main ingredients for approximately 12,000 meals, or two months’ worth of meals through The Lunch Box program. The Lunch Box serves hot mid-day meals and dinners to thousands of local residents.
“To me the Lunch Box is a stirring example of what a small community of concerned and caring people can do to address a serious social problem like hunger,” said Brian Riddell, Executive Director of Dutchess Outreach Inc. “We know people want to help, and organizations such as Dutchess Outreach provide the opportunity to make a difference.”
The coats will be distributed from six different locations in Dutchess County. “The need for warm coats is even greater this year, because so many local residents’ endured flooding in their basements, where they stored their winter clothing,” added Mr. Riddell.
The money was raised through a raffle of goods and services that were donated by local businesses. It also featured a premier silent auction item — a one day driving experience at the exclusive Monticello Motor Club.
