Healey Brothers’ Golf Outing Raises $56,000 for Local Habitat for Humanity Chapters

GOSHEN, N.Y. (Oct. 20, 2021) – The 2021 Healey Brothers Golf Outing held Oct. 11 at the Powelton Club in Newburgh was a resounding success, raising $56,000 for two chapters of Habitat for Humanity International, the global organization that provides affordable housing to aspiring homeowners.

Healey Brothers, a family-owned automobile business with eight Hudson Valley locations, sponsored the event to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh and Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County.

“What a wonderful thing the Healey Brothers companies do for the community – and they do it every year!” said Amy Gigliuto, Operations Manager for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newburgh. The contribution saves much time and effort that non-profits must generally do to raise funds, she said.

Christopher B. Brown, the President of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Dutchess County, said his affiliate will use the funds to build a house in Wappingers Falls.

“We’re beyond thrilled and humbled to be the recipient of these funds,” he said. “Home ownership is critical. It builds communities, it helps break the cycle of poverty, it gives families a home to live and grow.”

Habitat for Humanity engages teams of volunteers to build and restore homes, which are sold at affordable prices to those who might not otherwise be able to purchase a home. The homebuyers contribute hundreds of hours of work – called “sweat equity” – alongside the volunteers to qualify for the home.

“We are thrilled to be able to give back to the communities that have brought us success by supporting an organization as worthy as Habitat for Humanity,” said John Koerner, Executive General Manager of Healey Brothers. “It was important to us that the funds we raised are investments in communities in the Newburgh area and Dutchess County. Habitat for Humanity provides such a valuable service, helping people who would otherwise struggle to be able to enjoy the benefits of home ownership.”

What’s more, participants enjoyed themselves at the golf outing.

“It was a beautiful day, and we had a wonderful time,” Gigliuto said. “The generosity of everyone in the room was just phenomenal and we are very grateful and appreciative of their efforts.”
