Glen Arden’s “Dinner with the Doctor: Coming to Grips with Arthritis of the Hand” program reinforces its commitment to good health and wellness

GOSHEN, N.Y. (Jan. 17, 2017) — Guests at the Glen Arden Continuing Care Retirement Community’s recent “Dinner with the Doctor: Coming to Grips with Arthritis of the Hand” lecture came away with a better understanding of hand arthritis, including its signs and signals and when to seek medical help.

Dr. Gina Del Savio, a member of the St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital (SLCH) Orthopedic Department, was the guest speaker for the program, which was the latest offering in the series of Glen Arden Health and Wellness presentations by the area’s leading doctors and surgeons.

Dr. Del Savio also discussed treatment options and pain management plans so attendees had greater knowledge of issues concerning hands. A question and answer period followed her presentation.

Dr. Del Savio is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and hand surgery with membership in both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH). She has been an active member of the Medical Executive Committee at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital since 2001 and currently serves as SLCH’s associate chief medical officer. She has also served as a member of the St. Luke’s Cornwall Foundation Board.

Her special interests include repetitive disorders, trauma and degenerative conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow. Dr. Del Savio is published in American Orthopedic and Related Research, and has a chapter on congenital hand deformities in the Principles of Orthopedics textbook. Additionally, she has presented papers at national Orthopedic and Hand Society meetings.

Gathering at the Glen Arden Continuing Care Retirement Community’s recent “Dinner with the Doctor: Coming to Grips with Arthritis of the Hand” are Michelle Karnet, OTR/L, left, of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Sports Medicine Department; Nicole Kelly, the hospital’s marketing coordinator; Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Gina Del Savio; and Tracey Horan, RN, BSN, MPA, director of orthopedic and spine service lines.
