Maureen Torelli named 2011 Tribute to Women of Achievement honoree
Goshen, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2011) – Glen Arden’s Maureen E. Torelli, LMSW, LNHA, CASP, was honored Feb. 16 by the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and YWCA Orange County at the 2011 Tribute to Women of Achievement press conference. Torelli was one of eight women to receive the Tribute award, which recognizes women in Orange County who have made a difference in the community through professional, personal or school-based activities.
Torelli is vice president and executive director of Glen Arden, Elant’s continuing care retirement community. She has served in her position since 2003 and has been with Elant since 1999. Torelli was honored in the Health & Human Services category, which recognizes her outstanding leadership at Glen Arden and Elant, and her contributions to the community. She was a board member of the Hudson Valley, Rockland, Westchester, NY Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association from 2003 to 2009, and a treasurer for the organization from 2007 to 2009. Torelli remains active with the Alzheimer’s Association as a member of the Orange County Walk to End Alzheimer’s Committee. Torelli has also been a board member of the Braeside Camp in Middletown since 2003, a member of the Goshen Rotary Club since 2003 and a board member of the Goshen Rotary Club since 2006.
In nominating Torelli, Elant volunteer Julia Whitney, wrote: “Maureen is most notably known for the energy, compassion, kindness and care she provides to each of the residents at Glen Arden. She cares and respects each one of the 200-plus residents as if they were each a member of her own family.”
Torelli said she was humbled by the award. “I am extremely proud to have been chosen as a Woman of Achievement and to serve the residents of Glen Arden and the community. To be one of just eight women selected is truly an honor,” she said.
“It is Maureen Torelli’s leadership that makes Glen Arden such a successful continuing care retirement community,” Elant President and CEO Todd A. Whitney said.
Seven other women were honored in various categories: Arts – Donna Hall, Walden, NY School of Music and Rock Camp USA; Business – Trish Fisher, Stormville, Greater Newburgh YMCA; Communications – Cecille Jones, Monroe, Orange & Rockland Utilities; Public Service – Karen Van Houten Minogue, Highlands, Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan; Education – Florence Blueglass Hannes, Monroe, SUNY Orange; Woman of the Future – Aisling Cuffe, Cornwall, Cornwall High School; and Bobbie A. Lahey Memorial Award for Volunteer Services – Dr. Michelle Winchester Vega, Newburgh/New Windsor.
Nearly 190 women from throughout Orange County have been honored since the award’s inception in 1992. This year’s honorees will also be recognized at the Annual Tribute to Women of Achievement Dinner on May 11 at Anthony’s Pier 9.
