GOSHEN, N.Y. (August 30, 2012) – A community came together to help more than 80 Elant residents from across the Elant system attend the Hudson Valley Renegades baseball game on Sunday, Aug. 26.

The residents were transported to the event by 15 vans; Statewide Ambulette Service of Newburgh and Mount Vernon, Master’s Coach of Wallkill and Clove Coach of Monroe and Newburgh donated their vehicles and employees for the day to assist Elant in providing a fun and unique afternoon for its residents. More than 30 Elant employees assisted with transportation and at the game to help residents with their needs so they could fully enjoy the experience.

“To bring more than 80 residents to a baseball game is truly something special that required much coordination and effort from not just Elant, but also our transportation partners, the Renegades and Dutchess Stadium,” said Todd A. Whitney, President and CEO of Elant Inc. “The safety and comfort of our residents was our top concern, and everyone’s efforts ensured that our residents had a great time.”

Elant employees traveled with their residents to Dutchess Stadium to assist them and coordinate wheelchairs and walkers. Residents were welcomed at a private side gate, provided refreshments and bags of goodies, and were then escorted to handicapped seating in the ballpark. Residents from the Glen Arden, Elant at Goshen, Elant at Wappingers Falls, Elant at Fishkill and Elant at Meadow Hill facilities attended, as well as participants in the Elant Choice program, a home-based managed long-term care plan.

Many of the residents had enjoyed attending baseball games in their youth; however, for some residents, the day was a brand new experience.

“I’m 96 years old, and I went to my first ball game,” said Lewis Dubois, a resident at Elant at Meadow Hill.

“It was great to see the smiles on our residents’ faces, as they enjoyed an outing and time spent with friends, family and staff,” said Melissa McCoy, Elant’s Director of Corporate Initiatives. “Elant is extremely grateful to the transportation companies, the Renegades management team and to everyone involved in making this event a reality. We would not have been able to do this event without their time and generosity. Our residents had a wonderful time, and we’re proud that we were able to provide them with a fun, unique afternoon of watching a great American pastime.”
