Educational initiative aims to build relationships in local communities

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Nov.3, 2011) – Elant recently launched a new initiative, the Elant Community Exchange, a breakfast program that aims to educate attendees about Elant’s programs and services, and build relationships in the communities that Elant serves. The first Community Exchange breakfast was held on Oct. 12 at Elant at Newburgh.

The program invites members of the community, as well as local businesses into Elant for breakfast, and provides an opportunity for attendees to network, learn about Elant’s programs and services and take a tour inside Elant’s community. More than 60 people attended the inaugural Community Exchange breakfast; the next breakfast is slated for Nov. 18 at Elant at Goshen.

“The Elant Community Exchange is an exceptionally meaningful program,” said Elant President and CEO Todd A. Whitney. “Until people actually come through our doors and see that we are a community within a community, they don’t realize what we do, and most importantly who we care for. The breakfast provides the opportunity to understand the role Elant plays in the community, as both a corporate leader and provider of a vital community resource.”

As part of the program, Dr. Sukhdeep Kaur, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Elant, provided a lecture about Elant Medical Practice (EMP), which is unique to the Hudson Valley region and one of Elant’s key points of difference. Dr. Kaur explained how Elant uses a new hospitalist-model of providing care to its residents where it has dedicated physicians and nurse practitioners – who are Elant employees – on-site daily to see residents, monitor their medical needs and administer care when necessary. EMP professionals know both residents and their family members well, as they spend their workdays with the residents and develop strong relationships with them.

“Having medical professionals on-site daily in the facility gives them better access to the residents and allows them to have a baseline condition of each resident, so we know quickly if their condition changes,” said Dr. Kaur. “Our residents and families like this new, more person-centered and interactive approach to skilled nursing home care. With the EMP team of experienced professionals, residents and their families can rest assured that they will always have access to quality care, when and where it’s needed.”
