(June 30, 2011) – The Elant Foundation is hosting a free Legal Resource Day for residents, family and friends as well as anyone in the community at its Glen Arden facility. Those interested in hearing a presentation on estate planning, planned giving, health care proxies, and living wills are welcome to attend this FREE event.
Michelle F. Rider, a certified public accountant, and attorney, and partner from the Newburgh law firm Tarshis, Catania, Liberth, Mahon and Milligram, will give a presentation and be available to answer questions. She will explain legal issues related to these subjects at Glen Arden’s Rhinebeck Room from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 8. Free healthcare proxy, living will and power of attorney forms and Elant Planned Giving booklets will also be available.
This event was opened up to everyone in the community because of the high level of interest in a similar event two weeks ago that was available to Glen Arden residents only. “The great interest shown in this subject, by our residents, made it clear that it we wanted to repeat the event and invite the community as well,” said Melissa McCoy, Director of Corporate Initiatives with the Elant Foundation. “There is a great need to bring up to date legal understanding to residents of all ages. Presenting it in an informal and comfortable setting is one way Elant can connect with the community and develop meaningfuls relationships and provide support.”
McCoy said that Elant is finding through these Legal Resource Days that health care proxies are a much needed document amongst most households. Many people do not have health care proxies, which are needed in the event you are temporarily or permanently unable to make health care decisions on your own. A health care proxy gives the decision-making power to someone you predetermine. They save loved ones the sometimes difficult decisions.
