Elant Community Breakfast Slated for Tuesday, May 20

elantGOSHEN, N.Y. (May 5, 2014) – This year’s Elant Community Breakfast will take place on Tuesday, May 20 at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. The event will feature heartwarming and insightful testimonials from family members of Elant residents, as well as a presentation titled, “Aging, Memory Loss & Dementia: What’s the Difference?” led by keynote speaker Dr. James E. Galvin, M.P.H.

As the Professor of Neurology, Psychiatry, Nursing, Nutrition and Population Health at New York University’s Langone School of Medicine, Dr. Galvin is an expert on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. He serves as the Director of the Pearl I. Barlow Center for Memory Evaluation and Treatment, Lewy Body Dementia Program, NYU Alzheimer Disease Assistance Center and as Associate Director of the NIA-funded Alzheimer Disease Center leading both the clinical and education cores. Dr. Galvin has also authored more than 115 scientific publications covering basic, clinical and translational science in the area of neurodegenerative disorders, dementia and cognitive aging. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health; Centers for Disease Control; Michael J. Fox Foundation; American Federation for Aging Research; Alzheimer’s Association; New York State Department of Health; Alzheimer Drug Discovery Foundation, and the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund.

“According to the Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 5.2 million Americans currently have Alzheimer’s disease, including approximately 200,000 individuals younger than age 65 who have younger-onset Alzheimer’s,” said Melissa McCoy, Elant’s Director of Corporate Initiatives. “By 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s disease may nearly triple, from 5 million to as many as 16 million. Aging, memory loss and dementia are very important topics that will impact everyone at one point or another. We are proud to provide the community with an opportunity to learn about these issues from an expert who can offer valuable insight, and we want to thank Dr. Galvin, our testimonial speakers and our sponsors who provide such wonderful support for this event.”

The Elant Community Breakfast is sponsored by Central Hudson; Caretech Group; Catania, Mahon, Milligram & Rider, PLLC; Focus Media; Fox Radio; Mobile Life Support Services, Inc.; Rose & Kiernan, Inc., and Hudson Valley Investment Advisors.
