New member brings experience in assistive technology
GOSHEN, N.Y. (June 6, 2012) – Elant, the Hudson Valley’s premier provider of senior health and housing solutions, has announced the addition of Michael Gawronski to the Elant Choice Board of Directors. Elant Choice, an affiliate of Elant with its own Board of Directors, is a managed long-term care plan for adults 18 years and older that provides health and long-term care services to help clients remain in their homes for as long as possible, delaying or preventing placement in a nursing home.
Gawronski has more than 15 years of experience serving as a leader, teacher and speaker in the health services industry. He is currently an Associate Vice President in the Health Professions Division at Orange County Community College in Middletown, where he oversees all instructional programs.
“I am very pleased to join the board of directors at Elant Choice,” said Gawronski. “My experience working in occupational therapy and assistive technology will be beneficial to the Board, and I look forward to helping the organization grow.”
Prior to his current position, Gawronski was the Assistive Technology Practitioner at Helen Hayes Rehabilitation Hospital in West Haverstraw, where he implemented assistive technology treatment programs for individuals in a specialty outpatient setting. He has particular expertise in computer accessibility, environmental/home modifications, seating and wheeled mobility and augmentative/alternative communication systems.
One of Gawronski’s recent accomplishments was the establishment of the Center for Assistive and Rehabilitative Technology at Orange County Community College, a program that aims to educate and promote the advancement of assistive technology.
“One of the main goals at our organization is to provide quality-of-life choices as well as exceptional care,” said Donna Cornell, Chair of the Elant Inc. Board of Directors. “Michael understands that concept, and we look forward to utilizing his strengths to find new ways to continue providing top-notch service.”
Gawronski has a B.S./M.S. in Occupational Therapy from D’Youville College, and a B.S. in Health Services Administration from the State University of New York (SUNY). He expects to receive his Ph.D. in College and University Leadership from Colorado State University in 2014.
