Residents display pride and patriotism in weeklong observance
Goshen, N.Y. (Sept. 22, 2011) – Elant, Inc. celebrated National Assisted Living Week from Sept. 11 through Sept. 17 and marked the occasion with special events and activities designed to bring together residents, families, staff and the community in honor of this year’s theme, “Forever Proud.”
“We are proud to provide personalized, high quality care and lifestyle options to persons of diverse generations, cultures, needs and means,” said Todd Whitney, CEO of Elant, Inc. “National Assisted Living Week was another opportunity for us to showcase our pride not only in the excellence in care that we provide, but also in the residents we care for.”
The theme was selected as a tribute to the 10th anniversary of 9/11, and in recognition of the pride residents feel as American citizens and in their communities. It also celebrates pride in work done well, family and friends, or a lifetime of accomplishments.
Residents at Elant at Goshen enjoyed a U.S.O.-style dance reminiscent of World War II era events, including entertainment and dancing, as well as an old-fashioned ice cream social, bingo, a breakfast brunch, a Wii bowling tournament between the Resident Ringers and staff Lightning Strikers, and an afternoon social. Some residents also enjoyed a scenic Hudson River boat tour which departed from West Point, and a Mexican Independence Day celebration featuring traditional refreshments and entertainment.
“The events not only provided an opportunity to get together and have some fun,” explained Laura Dillon, Administrator of the Elant at Goshen Adult Home, “but also a way to show pride in our citizenship, in our community, and in our friends and families.”
Residents of Glen Arden, the Continuing Care Retirement Community in the Elant system, got into the spirit as well, creating care packages for the troops. “Our residents were proud to show their support for our men and women in uniform,” said Glen Arden’s administrator, Maya Bisonette, “and gave the effort a personal touch that we’re sure will be appreciated by those serving in our armed forces.”
National Assisted Living Week® is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Center for Assisted Living, Washington, D.C. and the Empire State Association of Assisted Living.
