ELANT AT NEWBURGH TO HOST OKTOBERFEST ON OCTOBER 15

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2011) – Elant at Newburgh will host Oktoberfest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 15. The free, family-friendly event will feature pumpkin painting, entertainment, a farmers market, vendors, food and more.

Elant at Newburgh’s Oktoberfest will also feature an apple pie baking contest, with prizes for first, second and third place. Judging will take place at 1 p.m. Pies will be graded on appearance, flavor, creativity, crust color, texture, doneness, pie filling consistency and moistness. Anyone interested in participating in the contest is encouraged to bring a homemade pie between 11 a.m. and noon for an opportunity to showcase their culinary abilities.

“Oktoberfest is an opportunity for Elant at Newburgh to welcome the community to our home, and enjoy a festive experience alongside our community of residents. Many exciting changes are occurring at Elant at Newburgh and celebrating them with our neighbors is an opportunity for us to further develop community awareness,” said Chris O’Toole, Vice President and Executive Director, of Elant at Newburgh. “It’s a great family event, and we hope that everyone will come and enjoy the many free activities and entertainment.”

Additionally, Last Exit, a four-piece band from Fishkill, will play. Students from The Dance Emporium in Middletown and from the Silverado Steppers, a line dance group through Orange County Retired Senior Volunteer Program, will perform during the band’s breaks.

Vendors such as Anita’s Silver Suitcase (unique jewelry), Valerie Palmer (personalized ornaments), Glenda’s Designs (pashimas, scarves, leather pocketbooks and jewelry) and PRS Gold Buyers (gold, silver and platinum buyback) will be on hand. Halloween costumes will be for sale, as will seasonal vegetables at the farmers market. For those interested in the excitement of games and prizes, there will be a tricky tray, and face painting and pumpkin painting will be available for children.

Clove Coach ambulette services of Monroe is one of the lead sponsors of the event. “We are so grateful for Clove Coach’s generosity and community spirit,” said Melissa McCoy, Director of Corporate Initiatives with Elant, Inc. “Their support makes this event possible.”

Businesses and community service organizations will also have booths at Elant at Newburgh’s Oktoberfest, including the Greater Newburgh Family YMCA, the Greater Hudson Valley Health Center, Safe Homes of Orange County, and the Family Empowerment Council amongst many others.

The event was coordinated by the Elant Foundation’s Newburgh Renewal Committee, which is raising money to directly benefit Elant at Newburgh residents.

Elant at Newburgh is at 172 Meadow Hill Road in Newburgh. For additional information about Oktoberfest, contact 1-800-501-3936 or e-mail info@elant.org.
