Anna Ferris now third oldest person in state, 63rd oldest in world
Goshen, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2011) – Anna Ferris, a resident at Elant at Goshen Nursing Care Center, turned 111 years old on Friday, Feb. 11. The supercentenarian is now the third oldest person in New York State and 63rd oldest person in the world.
Anna was born in 1900. “To have someone like Anna Ferris at Elant is an honor and privilege,” said Maura Brennan, Administrator, Elant at Goshen Nursing Care Center. “The fact that Anna was born before people flew in planes and drove cars is truly amazing, and we are very proud to care for her here at Elant.”
On Valentine’s Day she celebrated her birthday as friends and her granddaughter, Laurie Begendorf, sang “Happy Birthday” to her while she enjoyed cake and ice cream and a balloon hat.
Anna was a homemaker for most of her life. Her only child passed away at age 80 in 2005. Before her stay at Elant at Goshen, Anna was living with her grandson, Joe Begendorf, and his family in Washingtonville. There she enjoyed light cooking, and helping out with other non-taxing household activities, like folding laundry.
