GOSHEN, N.Y. (Nov.21, 2014) — Elant at Goshen is the recipient of the Orange County Arts Council’s 2014 Arts in Healthcare Award for its work to demonstrate and/or teach classes to residents on a variety of topics through its Jeffrey A. Weiss Memorial Arts Series.
The art series is made possible through a 2011 $25,000 bequest to the Elant Foundation from the estate of Elias and Nettie P. Weiss. The donation was specifically allocated to create an art series at Elant at Goshen in memory of the couple’s only child, Jeffrey.
Jeffrey Weiss had a passion for the arts throughout his youth and adult life before passing from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Just recently, a $10,000 gift was added to that fund by an anonymous donor to further advance this art program at the Goshen campus. This gift provides the opportunity for additional two years of programming for the art series.
Elant collaborates with the Orange County Arts Council and Wallkill River School, along with a committee of volunteers, to facilitate the resources for the arts community to ensure the best quality of programming.
These workshops series have employed more than 30 artists and allowed them to talk about what they do with residents. In 2012, Elant residents held their own art show and at the end of the year each resident was given a gift set of watercolor pencils and sketchpads. In 2013 and again in 2014, residents’ artwork received recognition from Leading Age, an industry publication.

The Orange County Arts Council’s Annual Art Awards recognizes individuals, organizations, and corporations that have made outstanding contributions to the arts in Orange County. The 2014 recipients uphold a commitment to the mission of the Orange County Arts Council while demonstrating the talent, dedication, diversity and generosity of the arts community in Orange County.
Elant’s award was one of 10 awards given during the arts council’s recent seventh annual “The Arts Take Flight” gala at Umbra Sound Stages in Newburgh.
