Event featured works of art from Brandywine residents
GOSHEN, NY (June 14, 2012) – Elant, the Hudson Valley’s leading provider of senior health care and housing solutions, recently celebrated the artistic talents of its Elant at Brandywine residents with a special “Evening of Art” event on May 17.
As part of Elant’s recognition of National Nursing Home Week, which took place May 13-19, the “Evening of Art” featured original artwork created by Elant at Brandywine residents. Family members of the residents were also invited to view the artwork, enjoy refreshments and visit with one another.
“This year’s ‘Evening of Art’ was a huge success not only because it allowed family members to enjoy the beautiful artwork of their loved ones, but also because it gave our residents the opportunity to see their talents recognized,” said Colleen Arevalo, Activity Director for Elant at Brandywine. “Our residents worked incredibly hard on their pieces, so this gallery night was a truly rewarding experience for all who participated.”
The gallery displayed each resident’s artwork with a biography about the artist and a description of why the resident enjoys art. Cognitive and physical disabilities had challenged many residents’ abilities to paint or draw, and so overcoming these limitations made the “Evening of Art” a poignant celebration of achievement for the artists.
“Residents who never thought they would be able to paint or draw again were overcome with emotion while viewing their displayed artwork,” said Arevalo. “Brandywine’s resident art gallery has impacted residents, families and staff in a way no one was able to anticipate. The ‘Evening of Art’ was a wonderful occasion that will be remembered fondly for a long time to come.”
Elant at Brandywine is located at 620 Sleepy Hollow Road in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y. The campus offers a wide range of programs and services for residents, including rehabilitation, sub-acute care, skilled nursing care and specialized programming for individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis.
