Collaborative program renewed by new college president
introduces business students to the world of arts and nonprofits
MONTGOMERY, N.Y. (October 31, 2018) – Mount Saint Mary College’s new president has renewed its existing relationship with Walden Savings Bank as a new group of eight students was welcomed into the Walden Savings Bank Medici Program at a reception held in September. The students were the fourth group inducted into the prestigious program since its inception in 2015.
The Walden Savings Bank Medici Program is a collaborative program that introduces undergraduate business and accounting students to the world of nonprofits in the arts and social services. At the reception, held at Walden Savings Bank’s headquarters in Montgomery, the students were introduced to leaders of the two nonprofit organizations taking part in this year’s program, the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra.
The competitive program is available to eight undergraduate business or accounting students each year. At the conclusion of the annual program, students will deliver a presentation to Walden Savings Bank’s leadership and board of directors. The presentation will review the students’ experiences, including what they learned and how they hope to apply it to their careers following graduation.
Walden Savings Bank’s endowed gift will allow Mount Saint Mary College to meet the financial needs of the program, including transportation and meeting costs as well as expenses incurred from program-related events on campus.
“Since my arrival in June as Mount Saint Mary College’s new president, I have seen the highest levels of engagement between this school and its community partners,” said Dr. Jason N. Adsit, President of the college. “We are thankful for the support from Walden Savings Bank. This program helps the college fulfill its continued tradition of providing academic excellence while educating students to become effective leaders and embrace their civic responsibility.”
“We are excited that Dr. Adsit has renewed the college’s commitment to the Walden Savings Bank Medici Program and we are again looking forward to playing a role in this program,” said Walden Savings Bank President and CEO, Derrik R. Wynkoop. “This is Walden Savings Bank’s fourth year of enriching the lives of students while providing necessary assistance to the nonprofit organizations in our community. We could not be more proud to be involved in such a worthy effort.”
